Turkish cake “Sambali” dessert with syrup made with semolina and has no egg, flour, and oil in it. Similar to basbousa or what we call in Turkey “Revani”. It is also one of the sweets sold on the Turkish streets…. This yummilicious easy to make authentic traditional Turkish dessert is a make sure try-out.
Ingredients for Sambali
Turkish Eggless Cake - Şambali Tatlısı
Semolina – 2 cups
Sugar – 1 cup
Baking Powder – 1 tsp
Milk – 1 cup
Butter/ghee for pan greasing
Sugar syrup
Sugar – 2 cup
Water – 2 cup
Lemon juice – ¼ tsp
Semolina – 2 cups
Sugar – 1 cup
Baking Powder – 1 tsp
Milk – 1 cup
Butter/ghee for pan greasing
Sugar – 2 cup
Water – 2 cup
Lemon juice – ¼ tsp
Sambali Turkish Eggless Cake - Şambali Tatlısı Preparation method
- In a bowl add semolina, sugar, baking powder mix the dry ingredients
- After ming add milk mixture and keep aside for 30 minutes.
- Meanwhile, prepare sugar syrup.
- Take a pan and add water and sugar.
- Once the sugar is diluted in water add lemon juice, then boil for 3 min and put off the flame.
- After 35 minutes check the semolina mixture, it will become thicker.
- Grease the pan with butter or ghee.
- Then add the mixture and spread evenly in the baking dish and give diamond shape marks with the knife.
- Now place skinless almonds and bake on the marked mixture.
- Now bake in a preheated oven 175C / 350F for one hour on low flame.
- After one hour take out the baked dessert and pour half sugar syrup.
- Now cut the marks with the knife and again pour the syrup.
- Now keep aside for 20 minutes. Until the dessert and sugar syrup gets firm.
- Note: you can adjust sugar syrup as per your taste buds.
