Beef Nali Nihari Recipe - Nihari Recipe 


Nihari was been served to Mughal Empire as a breakfast food after offering fajr prayers. Nihari is originated in Hyderabad and Old Dehli India in the 18th century. In the kitchens of Awadh, it was been prepared and was eaten as a breakfast in the chilly mornings. As it is a traditional Nawabi dish and it is prepared with secret spices, which creates a unique aroma.

Ingredients for Beef Nali Nihari 

Beef meat + nali 1kg
Ginger garlic paste 4tbsp
Onion chopped 1 cup
Nihari Masala 3 tbsp
Water 21/2 litre
Wheat Flour ½ cup diluted in 1 cup water
Beef Nihari Garnish:
Ginger juilliend
Corriander chopped
Onions fried
Green chillies sliced

Tarka Ingredients:

Oil ¼ cup
Red Chilli Powder 2tbsp
Beef Nihari Homemade Masala:
Cumin seed roasted 2tbsp
Star Anise 1
Cinnamon stick 5
Black pepper 1tbsp
Tatri ¼ tsp
Turmeric 1 tbsp
Ginger Powder ½ tbsp.
Green elaichi 4
Red Chilli powder 2tbsp
Salt 1tbsp
Fennel seeds saunf 2tbsp
Cloves 2
Nutmeg ½ tsp
Whole mace 4
Bay leaf 1
Coriander seeds 2tbsp

Beef Nihari Masala Recipe

First, roast all the dry spices and grind them to a fine powder. Then add tatri, ginger powder, turmeric, salt, nutmeg powder, red chilli. Mix all spices well. Store in an airtight jar and it can be used for 3 – 4 months.

Beef Nali Nihari Preparation Method

  • Heat oil in a pan and cook onion until it becomes transparent.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste, meat, nihari masala and cook for 4 minutes on high flame.
  • Add water as needed, and add Salt and nali and cook on low flame for 2 hours.
  • After 2 hours remove nali from the pot and check if the water is dried up, if so then water or else no need and continue to cook for more than 2 hours.
  • Meanwhile, dilute flour in water and once the beef is tender add the flour paste. And continuously keep stirring.
  • Now cook for more than 8 minutes until you get the required consistency
  • In the last, add nali bone and the garnish.
  • Do not stir cover the lid and keep on dum for 5 minutes
  • In a pan add oil and chilli powder and pour the tarka on nihari

The beef Nali Nihari is ready to garnish and serve
