Dhaba dal (chana ke dal)

Even gosht lovers would like this one. A healthy treat for a change!
We used to eat it from dhabas during medical schooling and whenever I told my mom about the taste, I would get scolded for eating "KACHRAA" 😅
Soak 1and 1/2 cup daal for 2-3 hours. Boil it with salt but don't over boil. Remove from heat when it is 80% done.
Now heat 1 cup oil and add 3 medium sized tomatoes sliced, 1 tablespoon ginger and garlic paste each, 1 tsp dhania powder, 1 tsp crushed red chillis, 1 tsp zeera powder, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp chicken powder, 1/2 tsp garam masala powder, 2 tablespoon imli paste, 1/2 to 1 tsp black pepper, 1 tsp of dry methi and salt.
Add daal and mix till a bit of oil separates and dal is nicely done. Give tarka with fried onion (1 small finely cut) and a pinch of zeera. Add katta dhania, green chillis and ginger for garnishing. Sprinkle some lemon juice before serving.
